Basement Closet Plans

Start by laying out your closet in an outside
corner of your basement. This will give you
the existing strength of the two outside walls,
and the floor joists of your house to frame
your closet against. You will need to completely
frame walls of your new closet. These
walls will be framed between the basement
floor and the floor joists above. Leave a rough
opening for the closet door. You will use
the 2 in.x 4 in. wood framing materials for
framing your closet walls.

Have an electrician rough-in electrical
wiring for a ceiling-mounted light fixture
and a wall-mounted light switch.

The outside of the closet can be covered
with Sheetrock, taped, finished and painted.
Install standard two inch base/casing molding
around outside base of the closet and around
the closet door, and paint. Alternatively,
4 ft. X 8 ft. paneling, cut to size, can be used
without the need for taping and finishing. Use
outside corner moulding, to finish corners, and
base/casing molding around outside base and
around the closet door.

The ceiling and walls inside the closet
will first be covered by sheetrock (requires
no finishing). 4x8 paneling can be used as
an alternative.CedarSafe Cedar Flakeboard
Panels will then be installed to cover the
walls and ceiling. The CedarSafe Flakeboard
panels will also be installed to cover the floor
using a sub-flooring adhesive. See instructions
for installing CedarSafe Cedar Flakeboard
Panels at www.CedarSafeClosets.com.

Install Pre-hung door unit and hardware.

Inside the closet install CedarSafe Closet
Cove Moulding in corners and around
ceiling/wall edge, and install CedarSafe
Base/Casing Moulding around base of the
closet and the closet door.

Have an electrician install light fixture and
light switch, and connect wiring to house
electrical wiring system.
